Government agencies use webinars for information dissemination

Department of Science and Technology for MSMEs

To help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) navigate their businesses during the pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 hosted its first national webinar.

The webinar was called “Understanding Consumer Behaviour Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic: Trends and Pivots”.

It was set up in partnership with the DOST Office of the Undersecretary for Regional Operations, the OROBEST Innovation Programme, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the STRIDE programme.

It was held earlier this month and according to a press release, was a huge success. More than 230 MSMEs from all regions in the country participated. Over 2,000 viewers watched through a Facebook live stream.

The webinar explored the shifts and trends in market sentiment and consumer preferences because of the current health crisis.

Local entrepreneurs and industry representatives from various sectors shared their experiences and thoughts in responding to the changing market environment.

Department of Information and Communications Technology for teachers

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is inviting all teachers in the Zamboanga Peninsula to attend a series of free webinars to prepare them for remote teaching before the opening of classes. There are around 34,000 teachers in the region.

The webinars are scheduled weekly from June to July. They will capacitate educators on resources, technologies, and strategies to ensure quality education during remote teaching.

The servers are capable of accommodating thousands of online participants at the same time.

Philippine Information Agency for youth leaders

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Ilocos Sur Information Centre conducted a webinar for youth leaders in the province that focused on the core services of PIA, responsible use of social media, and supporting mental health during a pandemic.

Over 55 student leaders from the cities of Candon and Vigan participated in the virtual youth forum, which intended to encourage the young people in the province to be an advocate of responsible information dissemination, a press release said.

As dynamic users of social media, they can greatly contribute to the fight against COVID-19 by correcting misinformation.

Aside from the responsible use of social media, it discussed the core services of the Agency, highlighting its function to raise awareness on the government’s programmes and services to empower the whole citizenry.

Further, intervention to address the mental health of young people was included as one of the topics to help the participants cope during the crisis. Not only have classrooms become digital, but milestones, athletic endeavours, and social circles have been affected.

A licensed psychologist and psychometrician talked to the participants on how to boost their mental health to reduce stress.

She said that social media is a good way to stay connected with close friends and family during this pandemic, but they must also take social media breaks and limit the amount of time they spend on it.
